Short Bio: 

My name is Emily Gillespie, and I am a graduate student at Western Kentucky University.  I am working out a thesis proposal for a participatory GIS project similar to Journey Up Coal River for Eastern Kentucky.  I have been working with Mountain Justice since 2007, and worked as an organizer for SEAC in KY for two years.  I am from Central Appalachia, and want to see it continue on without the destruction of our beautiful mountains.

My/our needs are: 

I want to learn more about open source GIS and will need some assistance/guidance for what types of research are needed in our field.

My/our wishes are: 

Ethnographic, community organizing, aid to coalfield residents, not recreating the wheel
